Description
This building, originally constructed as public offices in 1865 by Layland, now serves as Health and Social Security. It features a stone front with the remainder made of brick and is topped with a slate roof. The structure is one storey high and consists of nine bays, with the central three bays projecting beneath a pediment. The façade displays channelled rustication and a top entablature. The windows are adorned with architraves; the central three windows are round-headed, with the middle one being larger and topped with an open pediment. All windows are sashed without glazing bars, while the central window includes a fixed casement with two round-headed lights and a rounded top. The entrance, located in the third bay, is round-headed with a coved surround and a key featuring a lion mask, leading to paired three-panel doors. The right return has nine bays, with the end bays under open pediments and quoins. The central stone projecting bay features a segmental pediment and a round-headed entrance with a coved surround. The building is also notable for several tall stacks.
