Description

The Statue of William Rathbone is a monument located in Sefton Park, completed in 1877 by T. Brock and J.H. Foley. It is positioned facing the lake, on a raised area above the point where a stream emerges. The monument features grey granite steps and a plinth, which includes an inset panel with an inscription detailing Rathbone's birth in 1788 and death in 1868. Additionally, there are reliefs depicting classical scenes that represent three of his significant contributions: education, industry, and charity, created by Brock in 1876. Atop the monument stands a figure made of Portland stone, sculpted by Foley between 1874 and 1877.
