Description
Knowsley Hall is a large and irregular mansion with various architectural elements from different periods. It likely includes parts of a 15th-century house, but the exterior is predominantly Georgian. The red sandstone wing that runs east-west is probably from the late 17th century and features 18th-century sash windows and two round turrets. The main block of the house, which is built of red brick and dates from the 18th century, is mainly two storeys with a basement. It has a symmetrical arrangement of six, seven, and six sashes, with the centre section raised in 1912. At the south end of the east wing, there is a two-storeyed colonnade featuring Doric and Ionic columns, which was added in 1732 and has a balustraded parapet on top, displaying the Derby arms.
