Description
Nos 1 and 2 Mount Pleasant are a pair of houses built in the early to mid-19th century. They are constructed from watershot sandstone and feature a slate roof. The buildings are two storeys high and have three bays. The windows are sashed with glazing bars and have plain stone surrounds.
No. 1, located on the left, consists of one bay and has its door positioned to the right. This door features a plain stone surround with a round head, keystone, and impost blocks, along with a fanlight above. No. 2 has its door, which has a similar surround, in the left-hand bay. There is a toothed joint on the right side, indicating that this bay may have been added later. The houses have chimneys located on the gables and to the left of the right-hand bay.
The building is referenced in Julia Beeden's work, "The Nineteenth Century Houses of Calder Vale and Oakenclough," published in Contrebis in 1980.
