Description
The dovecote, dating from the late 18th century, features a late 20th-century replacement roof structure. It is constructed of red brick and has a tile rat course at mid-wall level, topped by a Welsh-slated pyramidal roof with a square ogee-roofed cupola. The building has a square plan, with a doorway on the east side and a window above, both featuring shallow segmental brick arches. The entrance includes a studded plank door, which is hung from straps attached to ashlar sandstone blocks set into the doorway jambs. There is a blocked overlight above the door. Surrounding the building at head height is a double course of tiles forming a rat course.
Inside, each wall contains ten rows of nesting boxes, with nine boxes in each row, although some areas have been damaged due to internal alterations. The lower part of the dovecote was later used to stall animals.
