Description

52 and 54 Moor Street are a row of three cottages, now functioning as two dwellings, dating from around 1800 with slight alterations. They are constructed of red brick in English garden wall bond with sandstone dressings and a composition tile roof. The cottages have a shallow double-depth plan and are single-fronted. They stand two low storeys high and feature a 2+2+2 window arrangement. There are three plain doorways with wedge lintels, each now fitted with panelled doors. To the right of each doorway is a square window, all of which are 2-light horizontal sliding sashes with 15 small panes in each leaf. Above each doorway, there is a similar window on the first floor, along with a 25-pane fixed window above the central doorway. All windows have raised sills and wedge lintels. The building has two ridge chimneys. Historically, it is likely associated with a former handloom weaving shop located at No. 58 to the left. This structure is an unusually intact survival and forms a group with No. 50 adjoining to the right.
