ORMSKIRK MOOR STREET (South side) No.58 (Formerly Listed as: MOOR STREET Mill building or weavers shed to east of No.54)

GV II

Handloom weaving workshop, now dental surgeries. c.1800, altered (and rear wall entirely rebuilt in C20). Red brick in English garden wall bond (5+1), with composition tile roof. Rectangular plan. A low 2-storey 9-window range. The ground floor has an altered window and doorway at the left end, then 6 segmental-headed windows with altered glazing, the first 2 larger than the others. The 1st floor has nine 2-light horizontal-sliding sashes, all with 15 small panes in each leaf. No chimneys. HISTORY: occupied in 1808 by Ainsworth & Co, when it contained 181 cast-iron looms and 77 wooden looms; a very unusual survival of an industrial building representing the transition between domestic and factory-based production.
