Description

The Windmill Public House is a house that has been converted into a public house, dating from around 1700. It has undergone alterations and features later extensions at the rear. The building is constructed of handmade brown brick in Flemish bond, with red brick dressings and a slate roof. It has a double-depth plan that runs parallel to the road, with an added back extension. The structure stands three storeys high and originally had four windows. It features a two-course band at the first floor and a three-course moulded and coped band at the second floor.

The doorway located in the second bay is now fitted with a 20th-century wooden doorcase that has a pediment and fluted pilasters. The windows above this doorway were blocked up early on, while the remaining windows are all sashed without glazing bars. The ground and first-floor windows have deep flat-arched heads made of red brick, with the soffits shaped in a wavy pattern. The second-floor windows are square and have simpler surrounds. The building also has extruded gable chimney stacks. At the rear, there is a lower two-storey extension with a stone slate roof. The interior has been remodelled. The Windmill Public House forms a group with the associated cobbled forecourt.
