Description

Stock Cottage is a house, likely dating from the late 17th century, and altered since. It is constructed from painted brick and stone rubble, with a thatched roof. The house is one storey high with an attic. The main section of the house comprises two bays, separated by a stone buttress. The windows have simple surrounds. Eyebrow dormers illuminate the attic space. The front door, located on the left side, also has plain reveals. A small window above the door, set under the eaves, has rectangular leaded glazing, with the lead strips forming Gothic tracery at the top. To the left of the main house is a former farm building, now incorporated into the dwelling. The lower portion is made of painted stone, while the upper portion is rendered. A buttress is present on the left side of this extension, followed by a window with simple surrounds and external stone steps leading to a first-floor doorway. A chimney is situated to the left of the main doorway. The interior was inaccessible during a survey in April 1987, but records suggest it contains chamfered beams, two inglenook fireplaces, and boarded doors.
