Description
No. 107 on School Lane is a house that likely dates back to the 17th century. It features a cruck-framed structure with walls made of painted stone rubble and brick, topped with a thatched roof that is covered by corrugated asbestos. The house is a single storey and has a front wall with five irregularly spaced windows that have plain reveals. There is a door located to the right of the second window, and a chimney aligned with the door.
Inside, parts of four cruck trusses are exposed, made from light timber, some of which appears to be reused. An iron ring attached to the southern truss indicates that this end of the building may have served as a shippon. The northern section of the house is divided into what were once the buttery and parlour. The doorways in this area are not framed into the truss, with the southern doorway featuring a notched head, a design typical of the 17th century that is derived from the ogee arch. Additionally, some straight windbraces are visible in the second bay from the north.
