Description

The Owens Farmhouse is a house dating from 1677, with alterations made subsequently. It is constructed of sandstone rubble on the ground floor, with brick above, and has a slate roof. The house follows a lobby-entry plan, comprising two bays to the left of a two-storey gabled porch, and one bay to the right. The windows are 20th-century casements with plain reveals. Evidence of earlier blocked window openings is visible on the ground floor. The outer porch doorway has a round head and a keystone inscribed with '1677 RMH'. A chimney is positioned in line with the porch. Inside, the inner porch door is original to the 17th century, featuring studs and strap hinges. A room to the left of the porch contains chamfered spine beams with run-out stops, and a 17th-century firehood bressumer, although the present fireplace is a 20th-century replacement.
