Description
The remains of Lydiate Hall are a house now in ruins, dating from the 15th and 16th centuries, with alterations and additions from the 19th century. The structure is built of brick and stone, with part of the roof still remaining, featuring stone slates. The timber-framed hall has been completely demolished, but the basic L-plan layout can still be traced through the foundations. The north end has standing walls, including two free-standing stacks with adjoining walling—one made of stone and the other of brick—next to a two-storey, one-bay section that has a collapsing roof as of 1985. This section includes 19th-century brick-mullioned windows with arrangements of 2:3:2 lights and ovolo mullions, and a 2:2:2-light window on the first floor. Inside, there is a collar and strut roof truss with a moulded tie beam, and on the south side, there is a Tudor-headed fireplace featuring a shield and cornice, along with a 19th-century range. A lateral stack with clustered flues is also present. Some remains can be found to the north of this part, along with a section of wall to the south that includes a 19th-century window with four lights and a transom. Many timbers are still visible, although they are now dismantled and in a state of decay.
