Description
The canal lock on the Leeds-Liverpool Canal, known as the "new cut" from Burscough to Tarleton, was likely built around 1780, with the new cut officially opening in 1781. It is constructed from dressed sandstone blocks and features wooden gates with iron fittings. The lock has convex retaining walls at both the north and south entries, with a descent from south to north. An overflow channel runs along the west side, connecting the basin at the south end to the basin at the north end. Additionally, there is a wooden bridge over the tail of the lock.
