Description

The ice house in Rufford Park, likely built in the late 18th century, is constructed from sandstone, brick, and earth. It features an egg-shaped subterranean ice chamber made of brick, which is accessed via a brick vaulted passage on the northwest side. This passage is currently blocked by modern iron gates. The ice house is surrounded by a circular ha-ha approximately 35 meters in diameter, with a low returning wall made of sandstone rubble. It was probably constructed around the same time as Rufford New Hall.
