Description
Ivy Cottage Farmhouse is a farmhouse that likely dates from the late 17th century, with a date of 1742 inscribed in the gable of the porch. The building is primarily constructed of sandstone rubble, with a brick addition, and is now covered in roughcast with cement quoining. It features a composition tile roof. Originally, the farmhouse had an L-shaped plan, consisting of a two-unit main range with a projecting porch and stair turret in the second bay, along with a rear wing and a 20th-century extension to the right.
The farmhouse is two storeys high and has a symmetrical arrangement of windows, with one window in each bay. The prominent two-storey gabled porch includes one window on each floor at the front, a shaped stone inscribed with "S R M 1742" at the apex of the gable, and an altered doorway on the left side. The first bay to the left has one window on each floor, while the extension to the right features one window at the first floor. All windows are 20th-century two-light casements with rendered surrounds. There is a gable chimney on the left side, and the left gable wall and rear wing are similar in appearance to the front.
Inside, the first bay contains a lateral beam with quarter-round moulding and stops that are embedded in the masonry, indicating possible former timber-framed construction. Approximately one metre from the gable wall, there is an 18th-century beam with run-out chamfer. On the first floor, the first bay has a longitudinal timber-framed and wattle-and-daub partition.
