Description
White Cottages is a small farmhouse that has been converted into two cottages, likely dating from the 17th century and altered over time. The building features a cruck frame with rendered and lime-washed stone cladding on the front and gable ends, while the rear wall is made of brick. It has a stone slate roof and a linear four-bay plan, with the right-hand half believed to have been a former shippon. The structure is single storey with lofts and includes four square two-light casement windows. There is a board door to the right of the second window and an altered doorway with a 20th-century porch to the right of the fourth window. The building has two ridge chimneys, with the second chimney being coupled. The left gable has a lean-to outbuilding and a loft window. Inside, there are three full cruck trusses in the internal partition walls, although they are all concealed. This building is a rare example of cruck construction in this area.
