Description
Chestnut Cottage is a farmhouse, now a house, that dates from the 17th century or earlier and has been altered over time. It features a cruck-framed structure with rendered brick cladding, and its roof is partly thatched and partly covered with corrugated sheet. The building consists of three bays, with two additional bays added at the left end, although a modern addition to the rear is not included in the listing. It is a single-storey building with a projected porch that has a thatched roof, located at the junction of the current fourth and fifth bays. The windows are square with glazing bars. While the exterior is of less interest, the interior is notable for containing three full cruck trusses. The first truss has been altered, the central truss features regularly curved blades that cross at the apex without a visible tie beam or collar, the southern truss has a shouldered shape with alterations, and the northern truss is not exposed above the ground floor.
