Description
The building is a tower windmill located in the garden of No. 53, known as Mill House. It dates back to 1761 and is currently in a derelict and dilapidated state. The windmill is constructed from coursed squared sandstone and is missing its cap. It has a cylindrical shape with a basement and three remaining stages. The basement is made of large dressed blocks, and there are plain bands over the first and second stages. Each cardinal point features a square-headed doorway, all surrounded by large dressed blocks, with chamfered reveals and flat-arched heads that include gauged voussoirs and raised keystones. There are four very small rectangular windows on each of the upper stages, arranged regularly on each level. The windows on the top stage align with the doorways, while those on the intermediate stage are positioned at intermediate points. Inside, there is a massive beam supporting the former second stage floor and a small fireplace at the second stage, which has a lintel crudely inscribed with "M G 1761". The windmill forms a group with No. 53, Mill House.
