Description
This very small cottage, now in a derelict state, is located approximately 300 meters northwest of Anchor Farmhouse. It is likely from the mid-19th century and has undergone alterations. The cottage features rendered brick walls of single thickness and a slate roof. It has a linear two-room plan with a very small lean-to at the rear of the left room. The doorway is damaged and flanked by damaged windows, and there are gable chimneys. Inside, there are two rectangular stone fireplaces. This dwelling, which is of almost minimal size, is said to have been inhabited until about 30 years ago. It serves as an interesting and now very rare example of a type that was once common in the mosslands of West Lancashire, reflecting aspects of 19th-century social history.
