Description

Lower Pimbo Farmhouse is a mid-18th century farmhouse that has been enlarged and altered over time. It is constructed from coursed sandstone rubble and some random rubble, with the front being pebble-dashed and the ends rendered. The roof is slate. The building has a double-depth, double-fronted main range with a single-depth, one-bay addition on the left. It stands two storeys high with a cellar and features a three-window range that was originally almost symmetrical. The doorway is located slightly to the left of the center of the main range and has a wooden surround with a recessed and panelled door. The windows are square, with cement surrounds and 20th-century casements. The roof has wooden bracketed eaves, gable chimneys, and a ridge chimney at the junction with the addition.

At the rear, there is similar window styling, including a central stair-window that features early 20th-century stained glass. Inside, there is direct entry to the front left room, as the partition between rooms has been removed. The doorways on both floors have pegged wooden cases and doors with raised fielded panels, most of which have HL hinges. The cellar consists of two rooms with stone keeping tables in both. A notable feature is the mid-18th century doglegged staircase, which has an open string, scrolled brackets, columnar newels, and a moulded handrail with an inverted ramp at the half-landing and a sturdy scrolled curtail at the foot.

The attached garden wall, which encloses a rectangular front garden, is made of sandstone rubble and stands approximately 1 meter high. It has a flat coping and ball finials flanking a plain gateway that aligns with the front door of the house. The farmhouse forms a group with a barn located approximately 30 meters southeast.
