Description
This barn, located approximately 30 metres north-east of Goodshaw Fold Farmhouse, dates back to 1618, as indicated by the date carved into the quoin at the left corner. The structure is built from sandstone rubble and features large quoins and a corrugated sheet roof. It has an H-plan layout with three bays and front and rear outshuts at both ends. The central area has flat-headed wagon doorways set back between the outshuts. The right re-entrant wall of the front left outshut includes a doorway with chamfered jambstones, although the lintel has been replaced. Notably, the quoinstone at the front left corner displays very worn raised lettering in a recessed panel that reads "1618 GH." This barn is historically linked to the original Goodshaw Fold Farmhouse, which was demolished in 1969 and had a datestone reading "1619 JH," associated with the Hargreaves family.
