Description
Whitewall Farm Cottage, probably built in the late 17th century and altered in the 18th century, features a T-plan layout with four bays. The first two bays are now used as a dwelling house, while the fourth bay is utilized for storage. The building is constructed from coursed sandstone rubble with quoins, and has a roof made of slate and corrugated sheet, complete with gable copings and kneelers. There is a chimney on the left gable and a brick chimney at the junction of the roofs to the right.
The cottage stands two storeys high and has a continuous hollow-moulded dripcourse along its full length. It is almost symmetrical, with a central doorway that now has a glazed door. Above this doorway is a two-light chamfered mullion window, flanked by two recessed chamfered mullion windows on each floor: three lights to the left and four to the right. The fourth bay features a 17th-century chamfered doorway with a large lintel that has been recently blocked, along with one double-chamfered four-light window on each floor.
At the rear, there is a four-light chamfered flush mullion window on each floor of the first bay, and a similar three-light window on the first floor of the extension. The fourth bay has been altered to create a large entry for storage. The interior of the cottage has also been altered.
