Description

Horton Hall, likely built in the early 17th century, is a house constructed of rubble, primarily sandstone, featuring sandstone dressings and a stone slate roof. The building has two storeys, with two bays to the left of a gabled porch and one bay to the right. The windows are mullioned, with worn surrounds that have an inner hollow chamfer and an outer chamfer. The ground floor windows have hoods, with the left side featuring windows of four and five lights, and the first floor having three and two lights. On the right side, there is one window with four lights on the ground floor and three lights on the first floor. The first floor of the porch extends over a moulded string and includes a stepped three-light window with a hood. The door has a chamfered surround with a flat lintel that is curved at the corners. There are chimneys located to the right of the porch, between the first and second bays, and at the left side.

Adjoining the house on the left is a barn that has a wide entrance with long-and-short jambs. The segmental arch above the entrance features a keystone inscribed with 'WHM 1825'. There is also a door on the left with a plain stone surround that has been blocked to create a window. Inside the house, the left room contains a wide chamfered fireplace with a segmental arch and springers for flanking door arches that are now missing. A large brick-lined oven is set into the left side of the fireplace. This room also has exposed chamfered and stopped main joists. In the porch, large exposed common joists display deeply-cut roll mouldings, and the inner porch doorway is moulded with a Tudor-arched head.
