Description

This is a group of late 18th-century weavers’ houses comprising numbers 8 to 15, Church Street, Ribchester. The buildings are constructed from squared sandstone with brick stacks and a slate roof. They have two storeys, a continuous plain frieze, and stone gutter brackets. The windows have plain reveals and projecting sills. The doors, located on the right-hand side, have plain stone surrounds.

Number 8, a single-bay house, features sash windows and a triangular moulded stone door hood supported by stone brackets. A stone plaque above the door is inscribed 'BPB 1795'. Number 9 has a similar door hood, modern windows, and a second first-floor window above the door. A tunnel entrance with a plain stone surround and a semi-circular head featuring a projecting key and impost is visible to the right.

Number 12 contains a second, modern, first-floor window, as does number 13, which has cement reveals to the ground floor door and window, and a tunnel entrance to the right with a plain stone surround. Number 14 has cement dressings, while number 15 has plain stone surrounds, likely dating from around 1900, alongside a tunnel entrance with a plain stone surround. Numbers 14 and 15 have been altered but preserve the facade of the row and are included in the listing because of their contribution to the group.
