Description

The Lodge to Read Hall, likely built in the 1820s by George Webster of Kendal, is a Grade II listed building. It is constructed from sandstone ashlar and features a hipped slate roof. The lodge is a symmetrical one-storey structure with one bay on each side of a central section. The windows have round heads and are set within round-headed recesses. In front of the central gable, there is a tetrastyle Greek Doric portico with columns that have grooved neckings. The gable is flanked by pilasters with sinkings, and beneath the apex of the gable is a worn shield displaying the Fort family crest. The entrance door has plain ashlar reveals and is flanked by narrow windows.
