Description
Moreton Lodge is a lodge built in 1833 for Moreton Hall, designed by George Webster of Kendal. It is constructed from sandstone ashlar and features a slate roof. The building is single storey and has a symmetrical north facade that faces the drive, highlighted by a central steeply-gabled porch. On either side of the porch, there is a double-chamfered window with one transom. The entrance door is framed by a moulded round arch, complete with moulded imposts and a fluted keystone. Beneath the gable, there is a plaque inscribed with 'IT [John Taylor] 1833'. The gables are finished with coped kneelers and finials, and there are chimneys located behind the ridge to the right of the porch. The left-hand gable wall, which faces the road, features a 6-light mullioned and transomed window. Moreton Hall, the main mansion, was built in a Jacobethan style by Webster but was demolished in 1955.
