Description
Harrop Hall is a house dating from the late 17th century and 1719. It features scored render with sandstone dressings and a slate roof, and it is two storeys high. The south facade includes a cross-wing on the right side, which has strips of chamfered rustication on its outer sides, continuing onto the left-hand return wall. The main range has two bays to the left of the door, with windows that have an outer chamfer, inner hollow chamfer, hoods, and two mullions each. The first-floor windows include glazing bars and a central horizontal sliding sash. To the right of the door, the windows have an outer cyma moulding and inner chamfer; the ground floor window has only the surround remaining, while the one above is a cross window. The cross-wing also has two bays with similar windows. The door features a moulded surround with a shaped lintel, and above it is a plaque that reads 'L L . 1719'. This plaque and lintel are enclosed by a hood with spiral stops. There are chimneys on the left-hand gable, to the left of the door, and on the right-hand return wall of the cross-wing. At the rear, there is a later parallel range with windows that have plain stone surrounds and glazing bars. Inside, there is an open-well closed-string staircase with moulded square newels topped with balls and turned balusters. Other features may be present beneath later casing.
