Description

A row of houses dating from the late 18th century, located on Church Street, Ribchester. The houses are built of squared sandstone with slate roofs and brick chimney stacks. They are two storeys high, with one bay per house and a door positioned to the right of each. The windows are modern; those at nos. 53-56 have plain stone surrounds, while those at nos. 57 and 58 have plain reveals. The doors generally have plain stone surrounds, with no. 57 having plain reveals instead. The ground-floor window surround at no. 54 is wide and may be a reconstruction. No. 55 features an additional ground-floor window to the left, set within plain reveals, which may be in the location of a former tunnel doorway. No. 56 has a doorcase with fluted pilasters, a fluted frieze, and an open pediment supported by console brackets, above which is a plaque dated 1795.
