Description

Whalley Viaduct is a railway viaduct on the Bolton, Blackburn, Clitheroe and West Yorkshire Railway, which opened in 1850. It was engineered by Flannagan and is constructed from red and blue brick. The structure features 48 round arches supported by battered piers. At the point where Ridding Lane passes through, near the north-west gateway of the Abbey, the opening has concentric brick arches and moulded stone imposts. On each side of this opening, there is an arch filled with brickwork that includes a blind lancet recess. Part of this viaduct is located in Whalley civil parish.
