Description

Spring House is a farmhouse dating from the early 17th century, constructed from sandstone rubble and topped with a roof of imitation stone slates. The building has two storeys. On the north wall, there is a five-light double-chamfered mullioned window on the left, and to the right, a window with a reconstructed double-chamfered surround and hood. To the left of this window is a blocked doorway with a chamfered surround. On the first floor, there is a two-light window with a plain stone surround and square mullion, flanked by two one-light blocked chamfered windows on the left and two similar windows on the right, with the left-hand one positioned lower.

The south wall features three bays, with windows that have plain stone surrounds and square mullions, arranged as two lights, three lights, and two lights. The door, located to the right of the first bay, also has a plain stone surround. Inside, the room to the right of the present doorway includes a massive firehood bressumer, which is chamfered with lambs-tongue stops. The two main ceiling joists are similarly chamfered and stopped. The east wall of this room is made up of a plank-and-muntin partition, with scribed mouldings on the muntins. Each side of the partition has doorways leading into the two eastern rooms, each featuring a plank door with a Tudor-arched head and an incised cross above the apex of the arch. The eastern rooms are separated by a similar partition.

Adjoining the farmhouse to the west is a barn, likely built in the early 19th century, which has a stone slate roof and a north wall that aligns with the farmhouse. The barn features a wide entrance with a segmental arch made of punched voussoirs, and a window to the right with a concrete surround.
