Description

A terrace of ten town houses located in Preston, built in the 1840s and subsequently altered. Constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, with sandstone dressings and a slate roof, the houses are arranged with a double-depth plan, each having a single-fronted facade and individual rear extensions. The architectural style is Late Georgian.

The two-storey buildings have a 20-window facade, featuring a sandstone plinth, a sill band to the first floor, a plain frieze, and a moulded gutter cornice. Each house has a wide, elliptical-arched doorway approached by steps, with a doorcase featuring three-quarter columns—Ionic at numbers 9 and 10, and Roman Doric at the others—along with a frieze and cornice. Fanlights above the doors are present, although altered at numbers 11 and 16. The windows have raised sills and wedge lintels. At numbers 9, 13, and 15, the windows are mostly 12-pane sashes; number 9 also has a 4-pane sash at ground floor and a 16-pane sash at first floor. Numbers 14 and 17 have sashed windows without glazing bars, while the glazing in the remaining windows has been altered. Chimneys are located on both the front and rear slopes of the buildings. The interiors have not been inspected.
