Description

35 St Austin's Road is part of a terraced row of five small town houses built around 1840 to 1845, though they have been altered over time. The houses are constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, with sandstone dressings and a slate roof. Each house has a double-depth plan and is single-fronted, featuring coupled back extensions. They stand two storeys tall over cellars and form a 9-window range. The design includes a stone plinth, a band, a plain frieze, and a moulded gutter cornice. The doorways are located to the left and have moulded architraves and cornices supported by consoles. The windows have raised sills, with those on the ground floor featuring flat-arched heads, although all the glazing has been altered. No. 35 has a double-fronted facade with blind windows to the right and above the door. The roof is hipped at the left end and has ridge chimneys, some of which have been cut down. The rear and interiors have not been inspected. This building forms a group with Nos. 38-44, Nos. 30-34 St Austin's Road, and the Church of St Augustine along with its presbytery opposite.
