Description

The Sunday School adjacent to St Bartholomew's Parish Church was originally built as the town's first grammar school in 1812, as indicated by the inscription on a triangular pediment with an oval panel that reads "THIS / Grammar School / was erected by voluntary subscription / 1812." The building is constructed from stone with ashlar quoins and dressings, and it features a slate roof. It is two storeys high and has a symmetrical five-bay design. The ground floor windows have plain surrounds, while the first-floor windows have semi-circular heads with keystones and imposts. A deep stringcourse separates the floors, and the quoins are prominently detailed.
