Description

This milestone, dated 1863, is located opposite 129 Gisburn Road in Barrowford. It stands 5 feet high and is made from a single piece of moulded stone. Originally set in the boundary wall of a stream, the milestone features a broad, rusticated base that rises as a narrow projection approximately 2 feet above the wall. On the northeast side of the projection, there is incised lettering that reads "To/Burnley/5 Miles," while the southwest side states "To/Gisburne/7 Miles."
