Description
Emmott Hall Gateway is a Grade II listed structure, likely built in 1737. It features gatepiers, side piers, wing walls, and wrought iron gates, all made from sandstone. The gatepiers are large and square, enhanced by buttresses on either side that end in volutes. They have a plinth, cornice, and occasional rustication. The cornice supports a gadrooned base topped with a ball finial, which has an abacus at its midpoint. On the inner side, the piers display Doric pilasters, while the outer side features rusticated niches. The side piers are similar but do not have these additional details. The side railings are relatively plain, but the gates are more ornate, featuring a running dog on the lock rail, dog bars, spear finials, and an elaborate scrolled overthrow.
