Description

Bridge Holme Laithe is a field barn with an integral shippon, dating from the late 17th century or early 18th century, and was repaired in 1795, as indicated by the datestone 'Repd. by WR 1795'. The structure is built of random rubble with a stone slab roof. The barn and shippon are arranged in a shallow L-plan, with a catslide roof that extends to create a protected entrance for the wagon entrance. This entrance features an elliptical arch, with the underside of the keystone displaying the date, and is flanked by double boarded doors. The shippon has a door with a chamfered surround. The roadside front includes a round-headed doorway opposite the wagon doorway, and there is a later window on the west return. Inside, there are six narrow roof bays supported by ties on stone corbels, a king post with struts, a ridge piece, and trenched purlins. The stalls are divided by tongue and groove partitions.
