Description
Hawthornthwaite Farmhouse is a house built in 1674, constructed from sandstone rubble with a stone slate roof. It has two storeys and three bays. The windows feature ovolo-moulded mullions and rebated surrounds, with three lights on the left and two on the right. The right-hand ground-floor window has had its mullion removed. The door, located between the bays, has a chamfered surround and is sheltered by a porch with monolithic sides and a pitched roof made of two sandstone flags. The house has gable chimneys. At the rear, there is a wing with mullioned windows, which appears to be a 19th-century addition. Inside, the left-hand room includes a moulded shouldered fireplace and a spice cupboard with a door inscribed: 'IEH 1674'.
