Description
Tarnwater is a house built in 1699, constructed from sandstone rubble and topped with a slate roof. It has two storeys and features three bays. The windows are rebated and chamfered with mullions, consisting of three lights each, except for the central window on the first floor, which is a modern imitation. The left-hand ground-floor window seems to have had its mullions extended. The central bay contains a door with a cyma-moulded surround and a battlemented lintel that has a hood, inscribed with '1699RWM'. The house has gable chimneys, with the right-hand chimney featuring a projecting stack. Inside, the right-hand room showcases exposed chamfered main joists and a fireplace with splayed sides and a plain lintel. The left-hand room includes a carved spice cupboard door inscribed with 'RWM 1699'.
