Description
The Shovel Inn is a public house dating from 1750, as indicated by the inscription on the lintel. It is constructed of pebbledashed rubble and features a slate roof. The building has two storeys, with the main entrance located in the northwest gable facing North Road. The windows are sash style with plain stone surrounds, with one window on each floor of the gable and the doorway, also with a plain stone surround, positioned to the right. The gable is topped with coping and kneelers. The northeast wall has three windows on the first floor, with the ground level being higher on this side. There is a gabled wing against the southwest wall that includes a window on each floor facing North Road, along with coping and kneelers. At the right-hand end of the southwest wall, there are additional windows with plain reveals, as well as a doorway and porch, both featuring plain reveals.
