Description

This is an early 18th-century house, altered in 1750. It is built of cobbles with sandstone dressings, covered by a slate roof. The house has a central entry plan with two gabled chimney stacks. It is two storeys tall with an attic. To the left of the front door is a two-light mullioned window, with a blocked single-light fire window nearby. To the right of the door is a three-light mullioned window. On the first floor are two similar two-light windows, where the jambs and mullions extend upwards, with a plaque inscribed "MRA 1750" set between them. The door surround has chamfered jambs that continue as an ogee arch over the lintel. At the rear is a three-storey gabled staircase wing with a tall, chamfered stair window divided by three transoms. The gable of the wing has kneelers but no copings. On each side of the wing, on the first floor of the main house, is a one-light mullioned window. Inside, the left-hand room contains an 18th-century cupboard built into the rear wall. The dog-leg staircase has square, fluted newels, turned balusters, a moulded string, and ramped handrails.
