Description
Abbotsford and Eastleigh are two houses located on Marine Road Central in Morecambe, built in the late 19th century. They are constructed from squared coursed sandstone with ashlar dressings and feature a slate roof. These two houses are designed as a mirrored pair, each with two stories and an attic, showcasing a free Jacobethan Renaissance style.
The windows are sashed and do not have glazing bars. The inner bays of the houses feature stone canted bay windows that rise two stories, adorned with string courses and parapets. Above these are attic windows set within steeply shaped gables. The outer bays include first-floor windows framed in carved stone surrounds, positioned above doorways that are topped with corbelled stone hoods featuring curved tops and scalloped fronts. The doors have three glazed lights above six panels and include transom lights above them.
Pilaster strips support pinnacles that extend above the gable parapet, with the outer ones reaching full height, while the inner ones are corbelled outwards at the level of the first-floor window heads. A central chimney stack is also present.
