Description

Caton Green Farmhouse is a house built in 1732, constructed from slobbered sandstone rubble and topped with a stone slate roof. It features a double-pile plan with a central entrance and gable chimneys. The building has two storeys, an attic, and a cellar, with a total of three bays. The windows are flush-chamfered with mullions, consisting of three lights, except for the central bay which has two lights. The left-hand bay includes a two-light cellar window. The central bay door has nine raised panels and a cyma-moulded stone surround, accessed by four external steps with nosings. Above the door is an oval plaque inscribed with '?DA 1732'. The gables are finished with copings and kneelers. Inside, the entrance hall features one wall of raised and fielded timber panelling. The dog-leg open-string staircase has a ramped handrail and turned fluted balusters. On the first-floor landing, there is an archway with a semi-circular head and moulded imposts, flanked by Corinthian pilasters that support a dentilled cornice. The southern ground-floor room includes a moulded shouldered fireplace with a cornice mantel.
