Description
Nos. 1 and 2 New Street are a pair of houses, originally built as one, dating from the late 17th century. They are constructed of slobbered rubble and topped with a stone slate roof. The buildings are two storeys high, with each house featuring two bays. The windows have rebated and chamfered surrounds. No. 1, located on the right, has modern windows, while No. 2 has 6-pane sash windows on the first floor and a sashed window with glazing bars on the ground floor. There is a continuous drip course of square section that rises over an enlarged left-hand window. The central bays of the houses have paired doorways; the right-hand doorway has plain reveals, while the left-hand doorway features a chamfered design with a battlemented lintel and a worn inscription that may read 'WB 1665'. Inside No. 1, the main joists are chamfered.
