Description
The former stable block west of Ashton Hall, dating from the 17th century, has been converted into a house with some restoration and alterations that are in keeping with its original character. It is constructed of sandstone rubble and features a stone slate roof, with a continuous plinth. The building is two storeys high and consists of five bays. The windows are mullioned with double chamfers, with four lights in most cases, except for the ground-floor window in the first bay and the first-floor window in the second bay, which have three lights. The ground floor of the second bay is blank. The ground-floor windows in the first and fifth bays have hoods above them. The fourth bay contains a door with long-and-short jambs, a plain lintel, and a hood over it. The gables are topped with copings and kneelers. The east gable features a three-light window with a hood on each floor. At the rear, there are openings that include a chamfered first-floor doorway with a Tudor-arched head, which has been glazed to form a window.
