Description
The sundial, dating from 1635, is located about 4 metres south-east of the church porch of the Church of St Wilfrid. It is made of brass and sits on a late 19th-century sandstone base. The sundial is inscribed with 'For Saint Wilfrite Church at Halton 1635' and 'Perevunt et Imputantur'. The gnomon is broken, and the base consists of three shaped pieces that appear to be made from re-used stone. Originally, the sundial stood on part of an Anglo-Saxon cross shaft and was relocated to its current position in 1891.
