Description
No. 8 The Nook is a house dated 1701, as indicated on the lintel. It is constructed from slobbered rubble with sandstone dressings and features a slate roof. The building has a two-unit central entry plan with gable stacks and stands two storeys high with attics. The continuous drip course is now interrupted by later plain stone surrounds, one on each side of the door, which is sashed with glazing bars.
On the first floor, there are three rebated and chamfered mullioned windows beneath a continuous drip course, with one of three lights on each side of a central two-light window. The moulding of the door jambs extends around the shaped lintel. The hardwood door has three raised and fielded panels, with vertical planks on the inner face.
The left-hand (east) gable features a one-light chamfered attic window, while the right-hand gable has a one-light chamfered window on the first floor and a similar window in the attic, which is now blocked. The gable is topped with copings and kneelers. The rear wing includes mullioned windows with chamfered and rebated and chamfered surrounds on the east wall.
