Description

Tewitfield Locks is a flight of eight locks on the Lancaster Canal, which was opened in 1819. The locks are constructed from large punched gritstone blocks and are all complete, although the wooden gates are missing. Lock No. 5, from the south, includes Tewitfield Lock Bridge at its southern end. This bridge features a segmental arch with a projecting key and a string course below a round-topped parapet. Part of this flight is located in Yealand Conyers Parish.
