Description

Bankfield House, formerly known as Watson House, is a late 17th-century house located on Whitebeck Lane in Priest Hutton. It is constructed of pebbledashed rubble with a slate roof, and follows a 2-unit central-entry plan with gable stacks. The house has two storeys and three bays. Windows are set within plain rendered surrounds with segmental heads. Ground-floor windows are double-sashed with no glazing bars, while the first-floor windows are sashed. A doorway is accessed via an open gabled stone porch, and the door itself has raised and fielded panels. A right-hand chimney has a modern cap, replacing an earlier corbelled round cap. To the rear is an outshut, featuring a former 3-light rebated and chamfered window, and a 19th-century wing with plain openings. Inside the right-hand room, features include a firehood bressumer, an 18th-century moulded shouldered fireplace, and an 18th-century built-in cupboard.
