Description
The New Inn is a public house located on Yealand Road, dating from the early 19th century but incorporating elements from the 17th century. The building is constructed of pebbledashed rubble and features a slate roof. It has a double-pile plan with a central entry and gable stacks, standing two storeys high with an attic and three bays. The windows are 6-light sashes with plain reveals and projecting sills. The door is framed by a plain stone surround topped with a cornice hood supported by brackets. The right-hand gable includes a rebated and chamfered surround for the attic window, while the rear wall features a rebated and chamfered mullioned window on the first floor. The south wall of the rear wing has two sashed windows with glazing bars and plain reveals on the first floor, along with a first-floor doorway to the right that is accessed by external stone steps. Inside, the left-hand (north) room contains a 17th-century chamfered fireplace with a shaped head, and the chimney breast displays ornamental plasterwork of vine scroll panels, also from the 17th century and now worn. The right-hand room features a moulded shouldered fireplace typical of the 18th century.
