Description

Caw Mill is a former water-powered corn mill, likely dating from the early 18th century, now repurposed for housing cattle. The building is constructed of sandstone rubble and features a roof made of stone slate and slate. It is situated on a slope, with two storeys at the southern end and one storey at the northern end.

On the east wall, there is a wheel opening at the lower level on the left, with plain reveals and the wooden wheel visible inside. Above this is a blocked door with plain reveals. To the right, at the first-floor level, there is a blocked window surround that was originally designed for two lights, featuring a rebated and chamfered style. Further to the right, the ground level rises, where two adjacent wide entrances with timber lintels are found; the left entrance includes a pitching hole. One of the stones in the pier between these entrances is inscribed with 'AR 1750' and 'IF 1725'. Continuing right, there is a plain stone window surround and a door with a chamfered right-hand jamb.

The southern gable wall has a lower opening with plain reveals, and above it is a blocked chamfered window typical of the 18th century, though the central mullion has been removed. Inside, the mill features hardwood trusses with collars and tie beams, although some tie beams have been removed from the trusses at the northern end. The upper floor at the southern end has mostly been removed.
